Treat wax-based and oil-based as briefing terms
Commercial labels do not by themselves define a complete core formula or drawing result. Different cores can contain multiple binders and additives, and supplier terminology can vary. Describe pressure range, color release, opacity or transparency, layering, blending, burnishing, smudging, feel, dust, and coverage on representative paper. Use a controlled drawing method, color sequence, evaluator, lighting, and reference rather than subjective words such as creamy without a comparison basis.

Control core dimensions, strength, and sharpening
Record core diameter, body-to-core geometry, centering, bonding indicators, point formation, sharpening tool, breakage request, drop or handling conditions if used, and acceptance after sample conditioning. A softer drawing feel may change point retention or handling behavior and must be evaluated on the complete pencil.

Specify the color range and evidence separately
Lock color count, sequence, color names or codes, barrel identification, swatch standard, batch comparison, set arrangement, replacement policy, and any lightfastness or performance claim request. A general formulation label does not prove a specific color's test result or claim.

Approve claims, samples, and inspection on one record
The release should identify the buyer-approved wording, formula or performance route, core specification, wood and body, finish, sharpening, set, pack, sample, test requests, tolerances, deviations, and inspection method. Do not publish oil-based, wax-based, artist-grade, non-toxic, lightfast, or similar claims without order- and market-appropriate evidence.

Are oil-based colored pencils always harder than wax-based pencils?
No universal comparison should be assumed. Core formulation, diameter, pigments, binders, wood, construction, and the test method all affect drawing and sharpening performance.
Can Shanhai make private-label wax-based or oil-based colored pencils?
A route can be evaluated from the buyer's intended use, reference, performance targets, claim wording, color count, body, pack, quantity, sample, evidence, and commercial requirements.
How should blendability be tested?
Agree the paper, colors, stroke or layering method, pressure, number of layers, blending tool if any, lighting, evaluator, reference sample, and acceptance record before comparing results.
Does oil-based or wax-based wording prove lightfastness?
No. Lightfastness is a separate, color- and method-specific evidence question. Define the required claim, test method, scope, result format, market, and approval owner.
