Color list and identity system
Factory buyer guide
Specify the color core, set count, barrel, finish, and packaging before quoting.
Prepare an OEM colored pencil set RFQ covering color range, core, body, finish, branding, 12/24/36-count packaging, samples, and inspection.

Who this is for
Stationery brands, art-supply buyers, school distributors, importers, wholesalers, and private-label colored pencil program managers
Use this page to prepare one measurable specification and commercial basis before comparing suppliers.
01
Freeze the color range and set architecture
List every required core color, identify the approved color or coloring reference, and define whether pencils are supplied as loose bodies, one fixed assortment, several set sizes, or a buyer-controlled packing program.
Approved coloring reference
Loose, assorted, or finished-set route
One controlled bill of materials per set
02
Define core and body performance
Record core diameter or confirmed construction, coloring feel, coverage, sharpening, breakage checks, body length, diameter, shape, wood route, and centering expectation. Avoid relying on terms such as soft core or artist quality without measurable acceptance.
Core and coloring reference
Sharpening and breakage check
Body dimensions and shape
Wood route and core centering
03
Control color identification
Explain how buyers and packers identify each pencil: barrel color, dipped end, printed color name or number, end cap, tray position, or another approved system. Keep the pencil identity aligned with the retail artwork and assortment list.
Barrel or end-color system
Printed color name or code
Tray or pack position
Assortment and artwork consistency
04
Specify finish and private-label branding
Define natural, painted, coated, or other confirmed finish, color references, logo files, imprint position, decoration route, exposed-wood areas, sharpening, and any end treatment. Approve artwork on the exact body construction.
Barrel finish and color
Logo, file revision, and placement
Sharpened or unsharpened state
Proof and physical sample route
05
Build 12, 24, or 36-count packaging precisely
State the exact pencil assortment, replacements if any, tray or internal arrangement, sales-pack material, artwork, barcode, labels, inner-pack count, master-carton count, protection, and shipping marks. A set count alone is not a complete packaging specification.
Exact assortment and count
Box, tin, tube, or confirmed pack
Tray, insert, and pencil orientation
Inner and master-carton structure
06
Approve samples and batch inspection
Use a controlled sample and written specification to approve coloring, sharpening, core centering, body dimensions, finish, identity, assortment, pack count, artwork, and carton construction. Confirm any testing or destination documents before order release.
Functional color and sharpening checks
Dimensional and visual checks
Assortment and count verification
Order-specific testing and documents
Set-size decision
12 vs 24 vs 36 colored pencil sets.
The right set size follows the buyer's channel, price position, color plan, packaging, shelf or tender requirements, freight, and approved assortment. Count alone does not determine quality or suitability.
12-count route
Use one approved 12-color assortment, identification system, pack structure, and target channel rather than assuming a universal basic palette.
24-count route
Define which additional colors are added, how close shades are identified, and how the larger assortment changes the tray, box, carton, and inspection plan.
36-count route
Control the full color list, duplicate or specialty colors, packaging strength, pack dimensions, carton weight, and count verification for the exact program.
Loose or mixed route
For loose bodies or buyer-packed sets, define color quantities, bundle identity, replenishment rules, downstream packing responsibility, and incoming inspection.

FAQ
Questions buyers should settle before production.
Does a 24-count set always use the same colors?
No. The buyer should approve the exact color list, identity system, arrangement, and replacement rule for the program. Set count alone does not define the assortment.
Can colored pencils be supplied loose for local set packing?
A loose-body or buyer-packed route can be discussed. Define each color quantity, body identity, bundle or inner-pack method, incoming checks, and downstream packing responsibility.
What should an OEM colored pencil sample prove?
The sample should prove the agreed color range, coloring and sharpening result, core centering, body construction, finish, branding, assortment, packaging, and any order-specific acceptance points.
Is a colored pencil set quotation complete without packaging artwork?
A preliminary product route may be discussed, but final cost and schedule depend on the exact set count, assortment, pack construction, artwork, labels, barcode, inner pack, master carton, and approval route.
Are colored pencil certificates automatically included?
No. Testing, certificates, declarations, labeling, and destination documents must be confirmed for the exact product, intended user, market, buyer requirement, and order.
