Factory buyer guide
Preflight pencil boxes, sleeves, cards, tins, tubes, and sets before sample and mass production.
Check pencil packaging dielines, dimensions, bleed, safe areas, barcodes, copy, materials, inserts, fit, print, finishing, sample, packing, and revision control.

Who this is for
Stationery brands, package designers, importers, colored-pencil set buyers, promotional-product teams, and school-supply distributors
Use this page to prepare one measurable specification and commercial basis before comparing suppliers.
01
Freeze the product and pack structure before artwork
Confirm pencil length, shape, diameter, eraser or ferrule, sharpening state, set count, arrangement, tray or insert, sharpener or accessory, inner pack, display, and master carton. A dieline cannot be approved reliably while the physical contents or orientation are still changing.

02
Preflight geometry, bleed, safe area, and glue zones
Check cut, crease, perforation, window, fold, flap, tuck, glue, lock, hole, hanging feature, seam, bleed, trim, quiet zone, and safe area. Keep critical copy, marks, and barcodes away from folds, curves, seams, and glue unless the packaging supplier has approved that construction.

03
Control copy, barcode, claims, and language
Use one approved text source for product identity, set count, grade or colors, instructions, importer or responsible-party details, origin, barcode, warnings, claims, recycling wording, languages, website, and contact information. Flag order- and destination-specific statements for buyer review instead of copying old packaging.

04
Specify print, material, finish, and color
Record board, paper, plastic, metal, wood, or other material; thickness or weight; print process; color references; coating; lamination; varnish; foil; embossing; window; insert; and acceptable appearance. Evaluate rub, cracking at folds, scuffing, set-off, odor, adhesion, and packing-line handling where relevant.

05
Approve a packed physical sample and release file
Test actual product fit, retention, removal, rattling, point or core protection, barcode scan, shelf presentation, hanging, shipping movement, inner and carton fit, and assembly time. The final file should identify dieline revision, artwork revision, material, finish, packed sample, deviations, approvers, and mass-production inspection points.

FAQ
Questions buyers should settle before production.
What should a pencil packaging dieline include?
It should identify cut, crease, folds, flaps, glue, seams, windows, bleed, trim, safe areas, dimensions, orientation, material, and any hanging or locking features for the approved pack structure.
Can artwork begin before the pencil set is finalized?
Concept work can begin, but production approval should wait until the exact pencil dimensions, components, count, arrangement, insert, and pack route are frozen.
What should be tested on a packed pencil sample?
Check fit, retention, removal, point protection, rattling, scuffing, barcode scan, copy, shelf or hanging function, assembly, inner and carton fit, and shipping movement.
Who approves destination-specific packaging copy?
The buyer should name the responsible reviewer for product identity, importer details, origin, claims, warnings, languages, recycling wording, barcodes, and destination requirements.
